What! Coffee houses are meant for relaxing in, not being blasted with big colour animations to sell me things.

I can see why Gusto would put the screens up, in a normal coffee house. That’s a half hour of peoples’ attention an advertiser will keep cropping up in.

However, with the type of adverts up there, Casinos &  Flashy stuff. It’s very very distracting and means I can’t relax and read. So surely that counters the main USP of a coffee house, rather than having one a warm beverage at home or on the move!

They should so check out the Watershed, Bristol. They have TV screens and advertise their events. But with static images that silently scroll every few minutes. It’s like a poster, but electronically better.

That way you choose to look at it, rather than being distracted constantly by dancing girls, crazy antics and colourful pictures. Bad Pervasive media, very bad.

On the subject of casino advertisments, i saw one the other day whose advertising premise was being shipped off to a remote caribbean island. The tag line of the company was “Ola Tombola”
Firstly, its Hola, not Ola…if we are to assume they are wanting to be talking spanish, if not then ‘ola’ would be correct for the portuguese language.
And Secondly, the island featured was undoubtebly caribbean in climate, landscape and relative flora and fauna. So i therefore put to you, why would they be speaking spanish in the carribbean. The only places to do so are the dominican rep. and cuba and this place was definately neither. On that note, no where in the caribbean does anyone speak portuguese…the closest portuguese speakers are some thousands of miles away.
I was incredibley frustrated by this obvious error in cultural indentification!
