Around now is the time when all the digital agencies start panicing about mailing out Christmas cheer to their clients.
This year’s e-card must express an agency’s creativity, ingenuity, spread virally, embrace their love of technology… and above all be more popular than elf-yourself.
Soon digital agency tweets from across the land will become similar. Monday morning meetings graced with a rare appearance from the MD. “Right guys, we need a Christmas card to make us popular this year…”. Big intake of breath from all around table. “Has anyone seen that elf-yourself card?”.
Groan.
That cocking little e-card where you put your mate’s face onto an elf and it dances for you to Christmas music, is still rather popular! Which, to be honest is fair enough, it was amazing, and very funny. But has also grown old. About 5 years to be precise.
However, that darned xmas card has become the yard-stick for all digital agencies to compete with every year. If your agency’s Christmas expression isn’t as good, funny or shocking as elf-yourself. It’s failed. apparently. Never mind the fact that Elf yourself was originally a really good idea so there’s no point trying to re-create it.
So when your MD does come in this morning. Crack ‘em one and tell them, “No! Go *E!f yourself!”
